Secuela!Sequel! Gente de Pemberley - Marie-Laure Sébire - People of Pemberley

Sabemos que hay multitud de secuelas en el mercado, y nosotras no somos muy fans de esto (cuando quieres más Austen, lees más Austen), pero sabemos que hay austenitas que gustan de estos libros. Es por ello, que tras haber sido informadas de la aparición de la primera secuela en español en publicarse, por la misma autora, no hemos podido evitar hablaros de "Gente de Pemberley" que sale al mercado este mes de diciembre, con diversas presentaciones por la geografía española.

La señora Sébire es francesa y fan absoluta de Austen, y al no encontrar una secuela que la hiciera feliz, decidió escribir la secuela que ella quería. Así es como publica esta novela, que quiere que sea coherente con los rasgos rasgos de la sociedad de Austen, contando la historia de los hijos de los Darcy, en una saga familiar.

We know there are many sequels on the market, and we're not big fans of these books (if you want more Austen, read more Austen), but we know there janeites who like these books. It is for this reason that after being informed of the publication of the first sequel to be published in Spanish, we could not help speak of "People of Pemberley" that hits the market this December, with various presentations in the Spanish geography.

Mrs Sebire is French and she is an absolute fan of Austen, and not finding a sequel that would make her happy, she decided to write the sequel she wanted. That's how this novel is published, you want to be consistent with traits of the Austen Society, telling the story of the children of Darcy, and turning it into a family saga.

Libros!Books! Longburn ya está en español/Longbourn is in Spanish - Jo Baker

No sabemos si Las Sombras de Pemberley serán contaminadas, pero el libro "Longbourn" ha sido traducido al español con el nombre de "Las Sombras de Longbourn". El libro que fue publicado en inglés este año, han encontrado en la Editorial Lumen, a un traductor rápido para el mercado español. Y es tan natural que no haya tardado, por la moda de Orgullo y prejuicio y Downton Abbey.
Como es costumbre, cuando queremos Austen, leemos más Austen, pero si has leído el libro (en español, inglés o en cualquier idioma que hables), y deseas compartir tu opinión, ¡nos encantaría escucharla!

We do not know if the Shades of Pemberley will be polluted, but the book "Longbourn" has been translated into Spanish with the name "The Shades of Longbourn". The book that was published in English language this year, have found in Lumen Publishing house, a quick translator for the market in Spanish. And it is so natural that they have been quick, because of the Pride and Prejudice and Downton Abbey fashion.

As usual, when we want Austen, we read more Austen, but if you have read the book (in Spanish, English or whatever language you speak), and you want to share your opinion, we would love to listen to it!

That servant does not seem to be in Regency clothes...

Book!Libro! Un patito bailarín llamado Mr Darcy / A little dancing duck called Mr Darcy

Ayer, gracias a Jane Austen Mexico, descubrí esto...Mr Darcy había sido estirado, magnáte y un perrito Wishbone, pero no sabía que también era un 'patito bailarín'. Al igual que los Cozy Classics, que lee la pequeña Laia (ver entradas anteriores), también hay otra adaptación para los más pequeños, que es tan bonita, que entran ganas de comprarla ahora mismo.

Son 32 páginas para niños entre 3 y 6 años, escritas por Alex Field e ilustradas por Peter Carnavas. Salió a la venta el 1 de Abril de este año. El argumento habla de la incapacidad de Mr Darcy para bailar, así que ¿podrá ayudarlo Lizzy?

Yesterday, thanks to Jane Austen Mexico, I found this ... Mr Darcy had been a tycoon, a snob guy, and a puppy called Wishbone, but we did not know he was also a 'dancer duck'. Like the Cozy Classics, read by little Laia (see previous posts), there is also another adaptation for children, which is so pretty that we feel like buying it now.

They are 32 pages for children between 3 and 6 years, written by Alex Field and illustrated by Peter Carnavas. It was released on April 1 this year. The argument speaks to the inability of Mr Darcy to dance, so what can Lizzy do?

Evento/Event: Romántica Buenos Aires (Argentina) (6-9 Junio/June)

El próximo 6 de junio comienza en Buenos Aires (Argentina) un evento sobre literatura romántica. Durará hasta el día 9 y se realizará en el Centro Cultural Recoleta.

Participarán 25 escritores destacados de este género. Y habrá performances inspiradas en la literatura romántica y en tres escritoras: Jane Austen, Cristina Bajo y Florencia Bonelli.

Aunque nosotras no consideramos para nada romántica a Jane Austen, en el sentido tradicional o actual (veáse su sentido de la parodia en Northanger Abbey), está claro, que los fans de estas novelas, adoran las historias de final feliz que nos da nuestra autora favorita.

Así, el día 8, de 15.30 a 16.30, se realizará un evento especial en este encuentro sobre los 200 años de Orgullo y Prejuicio. Si asistís, no dudéis en contárnoslo.

Next 6th June, an event starts in Buenos Aires (Argentina) on Romantic literature. It will last until 9th June and it will be held at the Centro Cultural Recoleta.
 
It features 25 experienced writers of this genre. And there will be performances inspired by romantic literature and these three writers: Jane Austen, Cristina Bajo and Florence Bonelli.

 Although we do not consider romantic to Jane Austen at all, in the traditional  or current sense (see her sense of parody in Northanger Abbey), it is clear that the fans of these novels, love happy ending stories that our favorite writer gives us.

Mexico está preparado/is ready!! World Book Day/Día del Libro

Todo está listo para la lectura de Orgullo y Prejuicio en el Día Mundial del Libro en México. Elegida por votación en internet, se celebra el bicentenario, y el festejo se hará de forma paralea en 150 sedes en Jalisco y otros estados. Sólo en la Rambla Cataluña de Guadalajara, se esperan a 400 lectores, más los de las demás sedes.  Coordinada por la Feria Internacional del Libro y el Ayuntamiento de Guadalajara, se comenzará a las 10:00 hasta las 21:00 horas. Será inaugurada por Tonatiuh Bravo Padilla, rector de la Universidad de Guadalajara; Ramiro Hernández García, alcalde de Guadalajara; Raúl Padilla López, presidente de la FIL Guadalajara; Marisol Schulz, directora de la FIL, y la escritora Silvia Eugenia Castillero. El cierre de la lectura estará a cargo de Laura García, periodista y conductora del programa televisivo La dichosa palabra, de Canal 22.

 Además, cada lector recibirá un ejemplar del libro y, como lo marca la tradición catalana de Sant Jordi que inspiró el Día Mundial del Libro, una rosa cortesía del Centro Universitario de Ciencias Biológicas y Agropecuarias. Además habrá una pequeña feria del libro.

Los otros municipios participantes son: Ciudad Acuña, Coahuila; Zamora de Hidalgo, Michoacán; Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua; León, Guanajuato; Culiacán, Mocorito, Navolato y Badiraguato, en Sinaloa; Hermosillo, Sonora; Fresnillo, Zacatecas; Apizaco, Tlaxcala, y Naucalpan y Tlalnepantla, en Estado de México. Además, 54 escuelas preparatorias del Sistema de Educación Media Superior de la UdeG se sumarán a la celebración, con la lectura de estudiantes, directivos, docentes, personal administrativo y de servicio y padres de familia.

Everything is ready for reading Pride and Prejudice in the World Book Day in Mexico. Chosen by internet voting, marks the bicentennial, and the celebration will be done in 150 locations in Jalisco and other states. TES Ranking: number/número 1!!!!!!

 Orgullo y Prejuicio ha sido el número 1 de las 100 novelas favoritas para profesores de primaria y secundaria. La encuesta fue realizada por TES, un lugar online para profesores del Reino Unido. Hicieron encuestas a 500 profesores de primara y secundaria.

Pero Simon Gibbons, presidente de la Asociación Nacional de Enseñanza del Inglés, no está de acuerdo: "No tengo este punto de vista personalmente -  Es sólo que no soy un gran fan de esa época de la ficción inglesa. Pero la gente a la que le gusta el libro suelen ser mujeres más que hombre. Y hay más mujeres que hombres entre los profesores, así que quizás, es también una reflexión del sexo también". De todas maneras, gente como la Dr. Bethan Marshall, profesora senior en Inglés en el King's College de Londres, toma otr punto de vista: "Orgullo y Prejuicio es un libro brillante."

En cualquier caso, todo el mundo tiene su propia opinión, pero es genial estar en el número 1 de esta lista. Los primeros 20 libros son:

Pride and Prejudice is the number one of the 100 favorite novels for primary and secondary teachers. The survey was made by TES, an online network for teachers in the UK. They surveyed 500 primary and secondary teachers from this country.

But Simon Gibbons, chair of the National Association for the Teaching of English, does not agree: “I don’t personally hold that view - I’m just not a massive fan of that period of English fiction. But people who like that book tend to be female rather than male. And there are more female than male teachers, so perhaps that’s a reflection of gender as well.” Anyway, other people like Dr Bethan Marshall, senior lecturer in English education at King’s College London, takes a very different view. “Pride and Prejudice is a brilliant book.”

In any case, everyone has their own opinion but it's a great to be in the top of this list. The first 20 books are:

Libros-Books!: The Jane Austen Travel Guide Bath and England 2013

Some days ago, I was able to 'virtually' meet Ms Rachel French via Twitter. She kindly showed me her new book, which is a travel guide for Jane Austen's England, for this special year. It's not the first time, we have seen travel guides about Austen, indeed, there's even a book in Spanish by writer Espido Freire, but I got totally curious about this travel guide.

Why? you would probably wonder, because in this special year, when so many janeites want to travel to England, to have a reference book is very important.

This guide, which has a small biography of Austen, will show you the places she loved and visited, with information about the places from Hampshire to Bath. Every chapter will show you a place, and there are updated travel tips and website links for every attration. There are suggested places to visit in every location...But not just that, there are extracts from Jane Austen's letters and stories of her and her people's lives.

If you are mad about London, you will find details, as well from known places like Bath Roman Baths and more. And if you adore the TV and film versions, there is also information.

In any case, you will know more about this book in a future entry, because Ms French has been interviewed by us and you will see how awesome she is...and if her book is just like her, it is a must-read book!

Hace algunos días, puede conocer 'virtualmente' a Rachel French via Twitter. Ella me mostró amablemente su nuevo libro, que es una guía de viajes para la Inglaterra de Jane Austen, para este año especial. No es la primera vez que hemos visto guías de viaje sobre Austen, incluso hay un libro en español por Espido Freire, pero de todas formas me sentí totalmente curiosa por esta guía de viajes.

¿Por qué? os preguntaréis probablemente, porque en este año especial, cuando tantos austenitas quieren viajar a Inglaterra, tener un libro de referencia es muy importante

Esta guía, que contiene una pequeña biografía de Austen, te mostrará los lugares que ella amó y visitó, con información de lugares desde Hampshire a Bath. Cada capítulo te mostrará un lugar, y hay información actualizada con enlaces web para cada atracción. Se sugieren lugares en cada ciudad....pero no sólo eso, hay extratos de las cartas de Jane Austen e historias de su vida y la de los suyos.

Si estás loco/a por Londres, encontrarás detalles, así como sitios conocidos como los baños romanos de Bath y más. Si adoras las versiones de TV y cine, también hay información.

En cualquier caso, sabrás más de este libro en una entrada futura, porque la señora French nos ha concedido una entrevista y veréis lo genial que es....y si su libro es como ella, ¡es una obligación leerlo!

2013 is a good year for Pride and Prejudice, as you well know. Fortunately, new books about our favorite masterpiece are coming too. The first one we are going to talk about is 'Celebrating Pride and Prejudice: 200 Years of Jane Austen's Masterpiece' (or 'Happily Ever After' in the United Kingdom version).

This book is written by Susannah Fullerton. I met 'virtually' her last year, when she was preparing her book, and she is delightful. Susannah is the president of the Jane Austen Sociaty of Australia, and she has previously published other janeites books such as A Dance with Jane Austen.

What's this book about? Will it teach me something new about Darcy and Lizzy? We must tell, it will totally surprise you. It not only talks about Austen's book, but how it was published, the repercussion and the legacy with humour and wit. It features some hidden illustrations and tells us about international and modern adaptations.

Unfortunately, for those who can't speak English, the book is only available in this language, but we would wish some brave Publishing House to translate it. You can order ir in US by Voyageour Press or in United Kingdom by Frances Lincoln. International copies can be ordered in places like Amazon and TheBookDepository. If you have a copy and want to tell us, we will be excited to hear you.

2013, como sabéis es un buen año para Orgullo y Prejuicio. Afortunadamente, hay libros nuevos sobre esta obra maestra también. El primero sobre el que vamos a hablar es'Celebrating Pride and Prejudice: 200 Years of Jane Austen's Masterpiece' (o 'Happily Ever After' en la versión del Reino Unido).

Este libro está escrito por Susannah Fullerton. La conocía 'virtualmente' el año pasado, cuando estaba preparando el libro,k y es un encanto. Susannah es la presidente de la Jane Austen Sociaty of Australia, y ha publicado otros libros austenitas como A Dance with Jane Austen.

¿De qué va el libro? ¿Me enseñará cosas nuevas sobre Darcy y Lizzy? Debemos decir que te sorprenderá totalmente. No sólo habla del libro de Austen, si no de cómo fue publicado, su repercusión y su legado con humor e inteligencia. Contien algunas ilustraciones escondidas y nos habla de adaptaciones modernas e internacionales.

Desafortunadamente para los que no hablan inglés, el libro sólo está disponible en este idioma, pero desearíamos que alguna editorial valiente, lo tradujera. Puedes pedirlo en EEUU a Voyageour Press o en el Reino Unido a Frances Lincoln. Las copias internacionales se pueden pedir en sitios como Amazon y TheBookDepository. Alba Minus - Nueva Edición/New Edition

La editorial española Alba Editorial, va a hacer una nueva edición de Orgullo y Prejuicio, que será publicada este mes de Enero. Esta edición es parte de la colección Alba minus, una versión en tapas blandas, más barata que las ediciones en pasta dura, pero con la calidad dee Alba Editorial. Como rasgo especial, para celebrar este 200 Aniversario, el libro contiene las ilustraciones de Hugh Thompson y algunos detalles más.

Comprobando algunos sitios web, podéis comprarla en España a partir de mañana (con un coste de 12 €).

Spanish Publishing House, Alba Editorial, is making a new edition of Pride and Prejudice in Spanish, to be published this very January. This editions is part of Alba Minus, a paperback collection which is cheaper than the hardback editions, but full of the quality of Alba Editorial. As a special feature, to celebrate this 200th Anniversary, the book contains the Hugh Thompson's illustrations and some details more.

Checking some websites, you will be able to buy it in Spain since tomorrow (about 12 €).

Cartas de Jane Austen - Jane Austen Letters in Spanish

Esta semana, los austenitas que hablamos castellano, tenemos un gran acontecimiento que celebrar. La editorial D'Epoca por fin, y afortunadamente, ha podido publicar las cartas de Jane Austen en nuestro idioma. Hasta ahora, sólo las podíamos encontrar en inglés o bien en castellano, en HablandodeJane de mi compañera de blog, Mila. Aunque ella seguirá traduciendo momentos de las cartas de Jane Austen, y durante este 2013, nos traerá lo mejor de lo relacionado con Orgullo y Prejuicio, estamos de celebración. Los editores de D'Epoca, tras un gran trabajo, nos traen un libro de más de 700 páginas, donde no sólo se traducen las cartas, si no que se incluye una estupenda labor de investigación, con cronologías, indices, notas, introducciones históricas y mucho más.

Actualmente, sólo está disponible en España, pero si escribís a la editorial, seguro que os informan como conseguir este tesoro en otras partes

This week, all the Spanish-speaking Janeites, have a great party to celebrate. D'Epoca publishing house, has finally and fortunately, published the Jane Austen letters in this language. Till now, they were just available in English or in Spanish in HablandodeJane by my blog colleague, Mila.  She will keep translating moments of the letters of Jane Austen, in during this 2013, she will bring us the best which is related to Pride and Prejudice. Anyway, we are celebrating this new book. D'Epoca editors, after a superb work, bring us a book of more than 700 pages, where they not just translate the letters, but include a great work, with chronologies, indexes, notes and historical introductions and more.

Now, it is just available in Spain, but if you write to the Publishing House, I am sure they will let you know how to get this great book in other places.

Today, Austral publishing House, is ahead in the celebration of the 200 years of Pride and Prejudice. It sells a special edition in Spain, so apart of the book in Spanish by José C. Valés, it has a DVD in zone 2, with the 1995 BBC adaptation. Are you going to buy it?
