Esta semana hemos conocido un movimiento llamado The Austen Project en el que autores conocidos están haciendo modernizaciones para Harper Fiction. Aunque el proyecto lleva vivo más de un año, no ha habido publicación hasta ahora con la versión moderna de Joanna Trollope de Sentido y Sensibilidad. Y así, periódicamente, se publicarán la de Northanger Abbey, realizada por Val McDermid en primavera del año que viene, Emma de Alexander McCall Smith y Curtis Sittenfeld realizará Orgullo y Prejuicio para el año que viene.
¿Qué sentido tiene esto? Las autoras de este blog defendemos la famosa frase de que "cuando queremos más Austen, leemos Austen". La vida es breve y hay muchos libros que leer, como para leer, versiones y versiones. Muchos lectores de este blog sabemos que son autores y lectores de secuelas, y estamos contentas con ello. Cada cual puede escoger lo que quiere, y rendir homenaje, pero no sabemos por qué Harper Fiction se dedica a hacer un movimiento de modernización de Austen, habiendo quizá ya autores que hacen esto y que a lo mejor, ya tienen obras mejores ya listas o bien, no dando oportunidades a autores que quieren mostrar obras originales y que si se les da la oportunidad, serían rentables a la vez que artísticas.
No estamos en contra de la modernización. De hecho, adoramos Clueless y si alguien del mundo del cine lo lee, poner a una recien llegada adolescente Catherine Morland en un instituto llamado "Northanger" o "Abadía", con sus novelas de "Divergente", "En Llamas" o "Crepúsculo", etcétera, debajo del brazo, sería una idea maravillosa, si está bien llevada.
En fin, ¿qué ofrecerá la obra de Curtis Sittenfeld a la trama de Orgullo y Prejuicio? Ya lo leeremos, el que lo quiera leer ;)

the project has been alive for over a year , it has not been published till the announcemente of a modern version of Sense and Sensibility by Joanna Trollope. And
then, periodically Northanger Abbey by Val McDermid will be published in
spring of next year, Emma by Alexander McCall Smith and Curtis Sittenfeld will write Pride and Prejudice for the coming year.
What sense does it? The writters of this blog defend the famous saying that "when we want more Austen, we read Austen " . Life is short and there are many books to read, instead of reading versions and versions. We know that many readers of this blog are authors and readers of sequels, and we are happy with it. Everyone
can choose what they want, and pay homage, but we do not know why Harper
Fiction is dedicated to modernize Austen having
perhaps already authors who have done this and that perhaps, their work is
better, or why they are not giving opportunities to authors who want to show original works
and that if they are given the opportunity, they would be profitable as well as
artistic.
We are not against modernization. In
fact , we love Clueless and if someone from the film world reads this blog, please, put a
teenage newcomer Catherine Morland in an high-school called "Northanger"
or "La Abadía" with her novels of "Divergent" , "Catching Fire" or "
Twilight ", under the arm, it would be a wonderful idea , if well taken .
In short , what will offer the work of Curtis Sittenfeld the plot of Pride and Prejudice? We'll read it , well, whoever wants ;)
