El día 5 de Octubre de 2013 a las 2 de la tarde tendrá lugar una conferencia en la Casa Museo de Jane Austen, en Chawton sobre la ropa que vestía Jane Austen. La conferencia correrá a cargo de Alison Carter, Presidenta de la Sociedad del Traje de los Condados del Sur.
Utilizando como referencia las cartas de la propia Jane, Alison Carter irá hablando sobre lo que se ponía Jane Austen, dónde lo compró y cómo hacía sus ropas: con qué tipo de telas, y cuáles eran los colores que le gustaban más.
En particular, se centrará en los años 1809 a 1817, cuando Jane estuvo viviendo en Chawton, y unirá el contenido de las cartas a las alusiones a las ropas que hizo Jane en su obra Orgullo y Prejuicio. Hará un fino análisis de las variaciones en este sentido que hubo desde que Jane hizo el primer borrador a finales del siglo XVIII hasta que por fin la obra se publicó en 1813.
Alison advierte que “también hablará de ropa interior….”
La conferencia contará con gran número de imágenes, obtenidas de los platos de porcelana, retratos y las ropas que han sobrevivido hasta ahora.
La verdad es que la conferencia tiene una pinta estupenda y, sabiendo lo detallistas que son los ingleses en estos asuntos, supongo que será de lo más ilustrativa. Por otro lado, al ser en la misma casa en la que vivió Jane, la sensación acabará siendo, imagino, escalofríante…. ¡qué maravilla!

On October 5, 2013 at 2 PM there will be a lecture at the Jane Austen House Museum in Chawton on the clothes worn by Jane Austen. The conference will be borne by Alison Carter, President of the Costume Society of South Counties.
By reference to the letters of Jane herself, Alison Carter will talk about what was Jane Austen dressed, where she bought it and how did her clothes: what kind of fabrics, and what were the colors she liked more
In particular, we focus on the years 1809-1817, when Jane was living in Chawton, linking the content of the letters to the allusions to the clothes that did Jane in his Pride and Prejudice. It will make a fine analysis of the variations in this sense that there was since Jane was first drafted in the late eighteenth century until finally the work was published in 1813.
Alison warns that "underwear also speak ...."
The conference will feature large numbers of images, obtained from porcelain plates, portraits and clothes that have survived until now.
The truth is that the conference has looked great and knowing what the British retailers who are in these matters, I guess that will be most illuminating. On the other hand, being in the same house in which Jane lived, the feeling will end up being, I imagine, creepy ....What a blast!
