On 21 Mar ’13, the university of Wellington will start a course about Jane Austen. They will explore through lectures, video, discussion, Austen’s other writing, and a
comparison with Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing, what makes the
book so sparkling.
Each session discusses selected chapters, including:
- how to get a novel started (volume 1: chapters 1–3)
- fighting and flirting (1:10–11, 2:8)
- proposals (2:11–13, 3:16)
- Lady Catherine de Bourgh’s visit, Mr Bennet and Mr Collins’s letter (3:14–15).
Every session will have 2 hourse lecture style one evening a week over four weeks. It is organized by David Norton, professor of English at Victoria.
