Antes de acabar el año, queremos hablaros de versiones de la novela que apenas se conocen. Quizá porque no son de Hollywood o Bollywood, probablemente no las conocerás. Son de Israel y Turqúí, y son muy modernas. También hablaremos de versiones de EEUU que apneas se conocen. También tienen una ambientación moderna.

1. 2003 - Pride and Prejudice, a latter day comedy

 

Película realizada por "Mollywood", de Utah (EEUU) que son mayoritariamente mormones. Según el equipo de producción, no querían hacer una película para una determinada audiencia, sino para todos. Dijeron incluso que Orgullo y Prejuicio era La Guerra de las Galaxias para las mujeres. Tened en cuenta que estábamos en 2003.

La película es una visión moderna de la novela, donde las Bennets son amigas en la universidad y Darcy es un hombre rico de Inglaterra. Elizabeth quiere ser escritora y siente la presión para que se case. Suponemos que esta presión, cuando aún está en la universidad, es por sus creencias religiosas.

El film no es muy bueno y algunos personajes son realmente tontos, y el final es muy grande y desquiciado y en Las Vegas :O. Se puso a la venta en DVD con facilidad, al menos en España, donde en aquel momento, era misión imposible conseguir la versión del 95 de la BBC

Bueno, si tienes paciencia y realmente quieres verla...inténtalo.

2. Asi - Serie turca - 2007 - 2009

 

Había oído algo acerca de una versión turca y pensé que había sido un sueño, al menos hoy. Así que cuando empecé a escribir este artículo, apareció de nuevo en mi memoria y la busqué. Y sí, hay una versión turca de la novela. Duraba dos temporadas y constaba de 71 capítulos al más puro estilo culebrón.

No la hemos podido ver pero copio parte de la sinopsis de Wikipedia.

"La serie está ambientada en una parte rural de Antakya y va alrededor de las vidas de Asi Kozcuoğlu (Tuba Büyüküstün), y Demir Doğan (Murat Yıldırım), y sus respectivas familias.

Durante tres generaciones, la familia Kozcuoğlu posee una importante plantación en Antakya. Mantener en marcha la granja es su objetivo vital. El propietario Ihsan Kozcuoğlu (Çetin Tekindor), y su hija, Asi, trabajan y viven por la tierra. Hace años, la madre de, Demir, Emıne (Elif Sümbül Sert), y su tía, Süheyla (Tülay Günal), eran trabajadoras de la granja donde la madre se ahogó cerca del río Asi (Orontes). Demir vuelve a casa convertido en un rico hombre de negocios. Aún está amargado por las circunstancias que llevaron a su madre a su muerte, y conoce a Asi y se siente atraído por ella. Sin embargo las vidas de los Kozcuoglu y la familia de Demir están más conectadas por el pasado de lo que parecen. Los secretos empezarán a conocerse a partir del regreso."

Suena totalmente a culebrón...pero supongo que algunos de vosotros querrán verla o echarle un pequeño vistazo. La presentación es puro culebrón...¡¡tan épico!!

De todas formas, si dicen que esto es Orgullo y Prejuicio...

3. גאווה ודעה קדומה - Cómo ser Israeli - 2009

Versión moderna de hace unos años, donde Lizzy es Alona, una apasionada amante de su pueblo, Galilea, que ve la llegada de un alto cargo tecnológico, Nimrod, procedente de Tel-Aviv y su mejor amigo, Omar Ben-Gal . Al contrario de lo que desea, acabará llamando su atención tras un fin de semana en el que todo le sale al revés. Pero Nimrod también siento problemas, pues se siente irremediablemente atraído hacia una mujer mayor que él, que está criando una hija adolescente.

Como veis el prejuicio en este caso, como en Bodas y Prejuicios, es la diferencia de mentalidad y el problema de Nimrod, Darcy, es sentirse atraído por alguien mayor, ya que la diferencia económica, aunque existente, no es tan "acusada" en la sociedad actual israelí.

Tampoco he tenido la oportunidad de ver esta versión pero escuché algunos comentarios y decían que era interesante aunque diferente de la novela (ver http://janeausten.mforos.com/1424228/8047615-orgullo-y-prejuicio-israeli/?pag=2#76585282)

4 - A modern Pride and Prejudice - 2012

Una verisón de EEUU, hecha en Colorado y de bajo presupuesto. Está escrita y dirigida por Bonnie Mae, que está preparando una moderna Persuasión también. No sabemos nada de esa versión, excepto el trailer...y no parece prometedor.

Before finishing this year, we want to tell about versions of the novel which are hardly known. Maybe, because they are not from Hollywood, Bollywood, you will probably don't know about them. They are from Israel and Turkey and they are both modern. We will also talk about other US versions that are hardly known. All have a modern setting.

1. 2003 - Pride and Prejudice, a latter day comedy

 

Film made by "Mollywood", from Utah (USA) which are mainly mormon. According to the technnical staff, they didn't want to make the film for certain audience but for everyone. And they said Pride and Prejudice was the Star Wars for women. Remember we are on 2003.

The film is a modern vision of the novel, where the Bennets are friends in the College and Darcy is rich man from England. Elizabeth wants to be writer and she feels the pressure to be married. We suppose this pressure, when she's in college yet, is due to her religious beliefs.

The film is not good and some characters are really silly, and the ending is crazy and big and in Las Vegas :O. It was released easily in DVD, at least in Spain, in a moment, where getting the 95s BBC version was an impossible mission.

Well, if you have the patience and you want to see it...just give it a try.

2. Asi - Turkish series - 2007 - 2009

 

I had heard about a Turkish version but I thought it was a dream, at least today. So when I started writing this article, it appeared in my memores and I looked for it. And yes, there is a Turkish version of the novel. It is a 2 seasons series of 71 chapters in soap opera style.

I have not been able to see it so I will copy part of the summary from Wikipedia.

"The series is set in a rural part of Antakya and revolves around the lives of Asi Kozcuoğlu (Tuba Büyüküstün), and Demir Doğan (Murat Yıldırım), and their respective families.

For three generations, the Kozcuoğlu family owns a prominent plantation in Antakya. Keeping this farm alive is their foremost goal. The owner, Ihsan Kozcuoğlu (Çetin Tekindor), and his daughter, Asi, work and live for their land. Years ago, Demir's mother, Emıne (Elif Sümbül Sert), and aunt, Süheyla (Tülay Günal), were workers on the Kozcuoğlu farm until his mother drowned herself in the nearby river Asi (Orontes). Demir returns to his hometown as a rich businessman. Still embittered about the circumstances that drove his mother to her death, he meets Asi and is immediately drawn to her. However, the lives of the Kozcuoglu family and Demir's family bear more connections from the past that constantly seem to get in between. These secrets gradually start to shatter when Süheyla also returns to Antakya."

It sounds completely soap opera....but I guess some of you would like to give it a try or a look. The credits are total soap opera stuff...so epic!!

Anyway, if they say this is Pride and Prejudice...

3. גאווה ודעה קדומה - How to be Israeli - 2009

Modern version from some years ago, where Lizzy is Alona, a passionate lover of her town Galilee, who sees the arrival of a high-tech officer, Nimrod, from Tel-Aviv and his best friend, Omar Ben-Gal. Contrary to what she wants, she ends up calling  his attention after a weekend in which everything goes backwards. But Nimrod also feels problems because he feels hopelessly attracted to an older woman, who is raising a teenage daughter.

As you see in this case, as in Bride and Prejudice, it is the difference in mentality where they have problems, as well as Nimrod, Darcy, being attracted to someone older, so economic difference, although existing, is not as "sharp" in Israeli society today.

I have not had a chance to see this version but I got some comments and it was interesting but different from the novel (see http://janeausten.mforos.com/1424228/8047615-orgullo-y-prejuicio-israeli/?pag=2#76585282)

A US version, made in Colorado with a low budget. It is written and directed by Bonnie Mae, who's preparing a modern Persuasion too. We don't know anything about this version, but the trailer...and it does not look promising.
